December 26, 2011

Hey Everyone!
Just want to let you know that the phone calls and Skype was amazing yesterday! im really blessed for the people that God has put into my life, and you guys have no idea how much it helped me to see and talk to you. you guys really inspire me to be a better person and work even harder in the work. and not just the people that i talked to on Christmas, but i really appreciate all the people that are helping me even though im a horrible person and dont write letters and stuff like that, but i promise ill make up for it when i get back ha..anyways, this Christmas went really well. first of all, this week we went to Cusco the 22 for a big dinner with half the mission that went really well. we did our skits that came out really funny and we ended up hanging out until like 12 at night which was sweet ha! it was nice seeing all my friends from the mission too! The dinner was good but i couldnt enjoy it too much because we went out and got fast food right before, but it was definitely worth it because it was delicious..oh and as we were coming back from cusco we went over a huge mountain and there was some snow which was sweet, so we stopped and took some pics which was cool. on Christmas eve we had a great turkey dinner with a family here that invited all of us missionarys over. then we had a gift exchange where everyone put in a ten sol gift, but i ended up getting like the worst gift ever lol. it was like the girlest picture frame ever but it was pretty funny i guess. after that we went to another member´s house though and the mom of the family absolutely loved it so i just gave it to her lol...it ended up working out great. the last great thing about this week was that Percy got baptized and confirmed!!! it was a really great service, and it was amazing seeing how strongly that Percy has converted to the gospel. oh and Plinio and Lila, my converts from Juliaca called me this week and are doing great which made me really happy! Plinio got the priesthood and is passing the sacrament already which is awesome! anyways i love you all and i hope that everyone had a great christmas and that everyone has a happy new year!

Hey Everyone!
This week went really well for us and we had a baptism too which was  really cool. he´s a 10 year old named Gabriel thats been coming to church for awhile now with his mom. his moms not a member yet because she still needs to get married first, but its a really cool family and his baptism and confirmation both went really well. Things here in Quillabamba are going awesome though, and the work is progressing really well. Im starting to get to know all the members really well and stuff too, and they are really cool. This week is the week of Christmas so we are planning on having a huge dinner the 24th with all the missionaries in the house of a member and are going to do a gift exchange and everything. plus, the 22nd we are all going to Cusco to meet up with like half the mission to have a christmas dinner together and we are all going to performe skits and everything to which should be really fun. This whole week we basically have activities planned, so it should be a blast. plus we have two baptisms planned for this saturday, so i really hope that they go through. i love you all and wish you a Merry Christmas!!!

Hey Everyone!
This week was pretty cool, because President Calderon came into to town and we all had interviews with him, and received some training as well. my interview with him was only like 5 min, but it was really powerfull and he promised me alot of great things and said that he feels like im going to be a really blessed person when i get back because of all the stuff im doing which really feels good. it helps me to keep going and working even though im exhausted alot of times, and i know that i just have to keep going at it for these last months. the training went well too, and seemed to get the whole zone pumped to work which was really cool. we went out to eat with president and his wife in a really nice restaurant here too, and he bought us a huge plate of different meats which was delicious. almost like Tucanos in Utah, but not quite ha...the only thing that i didnt like too much were the weird parts of the chicken lol. im not actually sure what i was chewing on but it was disgusting ha. anyways, the rest of the week went well, and we just keep working hard. we have 3 people with baptismal dates that are planning on getting baptized, and one of them is for this week so i hope it goes through. hes a kid named gabriel who is really really smart, and has actually given a talk in the sacrament meeting and everything even though hes not a member! anyways thats pretty much all here..its starting to get in to the christmas season here, but people dont get in to it too much which is kinda lame...were probably going to have some good dinners with some families though, so thatll be cool.
until next week, Elder Anderson!

oh and how cool is the pic where we taught Percy outside of his house on the mountain?? we pulled all the couches outside and stuff to do it because it was too hot and smelly inside ha! where he lives is beautiful...

December 5, 2011

ok so now ill fin you all in a little more on where i´m at and everything. Im in a city called Quillabamba and my sector of this city is called La Granja. Quillabamba is a district instead of a stake, because there arent enough members yet to become one. my sector is the best though, and our brach is really strong. every week there are normally 80 people at church, which is alot more than we had in Juliaca, and Juliaca was a ward. the other week here like 100 people came and i felt overwhelmed with having so many people to talk to and to get to know.  my apartment here is really legit too, and its probably the nicest one in all the mission so i got really lucky! its got all black tile and blue walls and a balcony and everything like you can see in the pics that i took this morning. its nice and big too which is nice because it gives me room to do workouts in the morning. we live there with 2 other missionarys, but it makes it more fun and its still not too crowded which is nice. my new pension, or place where i eat is amazing as well. we struggled in juliaca just to find a place to eat where they didnt give us chuño soup, but here the lady that cooks for us gives us delicious food and almost too much of it. after eating i can barely get up from the table but im working out alot so i dont get fat ha. something cool about this week was that we went to cusco again for the monthly zone leader meeting. we received alot of great new ideas for our zones and everything, and i got to see alot of ex companions and my buddies so it was fun. what was funny though is that i got altitude sickness after being here for only 2 weeks! i forgot that cusco is so high up lol! another cool thing about this week was the christmas devotional yesterday by the first presidency. it was really cool to think that everyone in the world was watching that at the same time, and that everyone could feel the same spirit. the christmas season is a little harder in the mission because it reminds me alot of friends and family and being home, but i just have to keep working and itll pass. this is my last christmas in the mission, which is crazy because that means that we´re starting a new year, and only halfway through the next year ill be heading home! wow how time flies! until that day when i arrive in the airport im going to keep working as hard as i can though and give my all because it really is fun to be out here having all of these amazing experiences and meeting so many amazing people. i love you all and hope that you have a great holiday season!

so its looking like i can only send one pic because the internet here is wayyyyyyy to slow...next week i guess

November 21, 2011

Hey Everyone! So im oficially in a place called Quillabamb which is a part of the jungle here! it is absolutely amazing and soooo different from where i was before that it shocks me! i feel like im in a completly different mission. i love it here in every way. the people are awesome the place is beautiful, and the weather is amaaazzziiinggg. for the first time in my whole mission ive gone days without wearing a sweatshirt. its like a tropical environment which is perfect! my new companion is Elder Santamaria de colombia and is an amazing guy! we get along great and are working really well. hes doing a great job showing me around and teaching me the area as well. im really looking forward to having some more great experiences, just now in a new place. idk if we´ll do anything for thanksgiving but i wish you all a great one.
have a great week,

November 14, 2011

Hey Everyone!
So i oficially have a change which is really exciting. Juliaca is like the hardest place in the mission so i know that wherever i go ill be able to have a little more success and not be so stressed out all the time. next week ill let you all know where im at though.. anyways, my time here in Juliaca has been the best, and ive grown more in these 3 changes here than i have in the rest of my mission put together! ive learned soooo much and am truely grateful for all the trials that ive had because theyve made me way stronger. im also glad for all the companions that ive had because theyve helped me a ton too. today i have to pack all my bags and say bye to everyone which is going to be rough. ive mad alot of great friends here with the members and investigators and it stinks to say bye now. im glad to say that the attendance is still growing here though, and im really happy to know that i can leave knowing that ive truly helped people!
Until Next Week.

hey everyone,
this was a pretty good week for us here. we just keep working and trying to visit and find as many people as possible. im pretty sure that im in my last week here in Juliaca, but ill find that out sunday night. this week were going to cusco for another training, so that should be fun. the church attendance is staying up which is nice, and alot of people have become active that were innactive for a long time. we had a fun noche de hogar this monday with a family and thats were my halloween pic came from ha.. anyways i love you all and miss you alot!

October 31, 2011 Happy Halloween!

Hey Everyone,
well to start out i guess i should say happy halloween! i wont be celebrating it but we are going to have an appointment with a cool family so thatll be fun. things continue to go well here, and we are working really hard even though its raining and freezing cold! im pretty sure that im in my last two weeks here in Juliaca, so im really going to do everything that i can to leave the sector a million times better than i found it, because a couple months ago things were horrible here. oh and i got the chance to baptize a 24 year old guy name john this week which was really cool. hes actually from another ward but we kinda have a similar story and got to be close when i talked to him so he chose me. it was really cool and a very spiritual baptism. anyways im doing great and love and miss you all!

October 24, 2011

Hey Everyone!
This week was really great and as you can all see from the pics the baptisms went through, and they were amazing! I got the chance to baptize Plinio and Lila and it was really amazing because ive been teaching them for so long and have gotten so close to them. the best part about the baptismal service was in the part when they both had a couple of minutes to share their testimonies with everyone. usually when people just get baptized they have problems sharing their testimony and stuff, but what they shared was amazing. they told everyone how they are truly going to try and follow Christ now that they are baptized and are going to do everything they can to keep the comandments and be great members of the church. they also shared how they are truly greatful for us missionaries that have been coming to their house for the last 3 months, and they finished by saying very powerfully, ``i know that this is the true church.``  i was holding back tears at this point. then, the next day they were confirmed members of the church in front of almost 70 people which is double what we had 3 months ago. miracles are going on right now here, and literally all the members that havent came for a long time are coming back and everyone is really excited again to come back and participate. its been the hardest thing ever here in Juliaca, but after months of hard work we are really seeing results!
love you all Elder Anderson!

October 17, 2011

Hey Everyone!
So this was an absolutely great week for us here. we had interviews with president this week, and it was really nice talking with him and learning from him as well in some training that we had. president and i are getting to be really good friends which is awesome because before i felt like i didnt know him to well. he was really excited for what were doing here in juliaca too which made me feel great. last month we were able to triple the baptisms, and this month we should have even more! its really fun to be a part of the work here! something else really exciting to is that we are going to have 2 baptisms this week! its been foreeeeeever since ive had baptisms, and since there have been baptisms here in my sector, but im pumped for this weekend! plus it is an amazing family that is going to get baptized that we have been teaching for awhile so it really feels special for me to see their progress and reach this step. oh and this week at church 70 people attended about which is double the 35 when i first got here. i have struggled more than i ever have in my whole life here in Juliaca, and have probably never been lower, but now that i look back i just thank god for every one of those moments because now i see that i needed them.  anyways i can finally say that im doing good and am actually happy again which is really nice. oh and as far as stuff that i need theres not too much..just some random stuff thatd be nice though is some shaving cream because they dont really have it here, and a rubiks cube for one of my ex companions, and some candy ofcourse ha..that would be the most helpful of all i think lol. anyways i love you all and really apreciate everything that youre doing for me.

everyone!
So this week things got soooo much better here its not even funny! i got a great new companion and we are working amazingly and seeing some great results already. my new companion is elder farrell from washington dc, and yes hes another white guy..thats crazy because that almost never happens here. alot of missionaries are gettting jealous lol. anyways, im actually training him on how to be a zone leader and stuff because its his first change as zl. its alot of fun and he is really a hard worker and really obedient and everything so its awesome. we have people that are going to get baptized the 22nd of this month too which im pumped for because its been way too long. we went to cusco this week for training too, and president calderon was really happy with the work were doing here and congratulated me a ton for the work im doing, so that felt really good because i was kinda down about everything and he lifted me back up. even though we havent had much success in our own area though we have helped the zone to triple their baptisms! thats the good news, but we just need to keep working and weve set an even higher goal this month so i hope we can get it!
love you all, elder anderson!

September 26, 2011

hey everyone,

another week here in Juliaca. it was kind of a rough week here because there were a bunch of parties and parades going on and stuff and everyone was pretty much hammered the whole time. anyways, the work is going alright and we have one guy, plinio, that is progressing and stuff so i guess things are improving a little. its still pretty tough though m not going to lie. not much else here though. the weathers warming up a little, but now its starting to rain again! looks like ill be walking with an umbrella for another 6 months!! love you all

September 20, 2011

Hey Everyone!
This week started out really rough, but got alot better on the weekend which was nice. we had a stake conference this weekend which was really cool and inspiring, and the coolest part was that the session on sunday was broadcasted from Salt Lake, and we got to hear from Elder Christoferson and President Monson. there were alot of technical dificulties to say the least, but once they got it working it was really cool. we were actually able to find alot of great people this week too, and didnt get water thrown on us or anything which was nice! im not sure if i mentioned that before, but it wasnt exactly a great memory lol. anyways, we just keep on going here in Juliaca and i just keep trying to do the best i can. my companion is finishing his mission here in 2 weeks, so its pretty much a sure thing that ill be here for atleast one more change, just with a new companion. i havenbt really been taking pics so sorry because i know you all like to see them. hgopefully there will be some more picture worthy things this week..i love you all and really apreciated the emails this week because i know that its not to easy to find the time to write. and i like the nickname Cody Poki by the way. ive had the chance to see that movie a couple of times now ha and alot of these experiences kind of are similar.

September 12, 2011

Hey Everyone!

this week was another rough one here in juliaca. the family that we have that was going to get baptized had a death in the family so weve kinda had to give them some time and stuff. besides that family though weve found a couple other people to teach, but its still really hard here. luckily though i am having some success being a zone leader here though, and the zone is really improving a ton. the missionaries are working harder than ever, and are seeing some good results because of it. hopefully we can keep this up here and even though were not having much success here atleast we can help others to. our sector is getting better though, it just started off sooo bad that its been taking awhile to see results..anyways im doing alright. ill try and get some more pics this week for you guys. sorry that ive been slacking on that though. the ones this week are from a family home evening with a family and the other ones just me by a huge tire..kinda random lol.

September 5, 2011

Hey everyone!
So this week  started out really rough like all of the other ones but sunday some miracles happened basically that i dont even know how to explain. some of them wouldnt sound like miracles to you guys or you probably wouldnt even understand them, but for me they were exactly what i needed and im happy again which is the best feeling ever. one of the amazing things that happend though, is that a 20 year old guy, Hyrum has become active in the church again, and all because we have become his friends and helped him out. this sunday though he invited us to some chicken sandwhiches and some fruit salads, and on the way he told us that he was seriously thinking about going on the mission. he is in the middle of studdies and work and a gf but told me that he feels like he needs to go. after all these weeks of being here thinking that i wasnt doing any good, i almost started crying right there in the street. i cant even explain how much happiness that brought to me, and how much it inspired me to keep going. the greatest part about how amazing sunday was for me is that i found out through an email that someone really dear to me was fasting for me. please dont stop fasting and praying for those that are in need, because the blessings do come, and they change lives.

August 29, 2011

Hey everyone,

so i ofiacially said goodbye to elder eggleston, and now have my new companion, elder chumley. and yes he´s another white companion, so thats pretty cool. he is from tennesse, and is a really cool guy. we already get along really well. he is finishing this change too, so he only has about 5 weeks of his mission left which is crazy. as far as the work in our sector though, its still really rough. we had one guy come to church this week though that is really interested, so we are going to keep working really hard with him, and keep trying to find other people to teach. so we had that really cool meeting with some big time leaders from the church in cusco this last week! it was.....Elder Andersen!! he came, along with Elder Halstrom from the seventy presidency, and also Elder Uceda and Elder Hooker, area seventies. it was an awesome meeting, and it was really cool getting to be around one of the Lord´s 12 apostles. it was really cool too, because i made a comment in one part, and when Elder Andersen saw my name tag, he got all excited and called me his son and stuff because we have basically the same last name..anyways the meeting went really good, and the week went alright, and now its back to work with my new companion. i hope that he has some new good ideas for our sector because im kinda out..love you all.

Thanks for all the emails and stuff to read. ill print them all out so i have time to read them and stuff. it was another tough week here, and a bunch of crazy stuff happend to us, but im alive and healthy so theres no complaints here. my companion elder eggleston has a change too, so hes going somewhere else for his last change because hes finishing in the beginning of october. something really cool though, is that this saturday an apostole is coming and we get to hear him talk. ill let you know who it was and how it went next week..anyways love you all!

August 15, 2011

Hey Everyone,
so im not even going to lie, this was probably one of the hardest weeks of my life. ive never worked soooo much and seen practically no results and im just trying as hard as i can to not get too discouraged. our ward is soo weak here and theres just more problems than i can even count and even the people we had coming to church before like dont even want to come anymore cuz it was boring and stuff. i dont know what to do and i just feel like all my work is in vain sometimes. ive been studying and praying really hard for help but its just hard here and doesnt seem to be getting any  better. our one baptism that we were going to have fell through too, and yesterday was really really hard because we were for sure for sure that like 2 or 3 investigators were going to come to church, and we even went to their house to get them, but they didnt come. anyways im just struggling out here like crazy but i just keep telling myself that this will make me stronger one day. the one cool thing about last week though was that we went to a 500 year old catholic chapel in a place called lampa and i took some cool pics and saw some cool stuff. plus, below the church was like a dungeon with skeletons and stuff and i even picked up a skull and played with it ha..that was a first. anyways love you all and hope you have a great week. oh and just to answer some of your questions..we are kinda starting to get out of winter here which is nice because its not quite as cold, but everyones telling me that the wind is going to start picking up like crazy here which makes it even colder and stuff than winter, so theres just no winning. plus were not allowed to wear beanies or earmuffs or anything so my face has been getting pretty cold and stuff at night. i dont really need anything else though, maybe just some prayers for me to help me keep going..thanks!

Hey Everyone!
This was a really hard week here in Juliaca. we are making progress, but very slowly just cuz the area is so tough. we just keep working though, and usually everyday we can have atleast one good experience to pick us up and keep going. it was elder eggleston´s birthday this last week which was pretty cool too. one of the members here got him a cake and stuff so it was pretty cool and we had a good time. we only had one investigator come to church this week, but were hopefully going to have 3 or 4 this next week. hopefully we´ll see some more results of all the hard work were doing.

August 1, 2011

Hey Everyone!
Sothis was a crazy week for us here in juliaca. president calderon came this week for interviews and everything, and then we went to puno for a training meeting. it all went amazing and i learned a ton. plus, president took the zone leaders out to eat at a trujillan restaurant which was absolutely delicious. trujillo is one of the northern cities here in peru where is suposively the best food in the world, and it was pretty good!...almost as good as mexican food, but nothing compares to that stuff! how i miss enchiladas ha! anyways, the rest of theweek i didnt have much time to work either because as zone leaders we have to do a ton of stuff for other missionarys..we are making aton of progress here in our ward though, and we are discovering alot of the problems here and why only 40 people come to church, and are doing everything we can to resolve them. and even though were in a super hard area, we should be having our first baptism here the 13th! my goal here is to double the attendance, and i think its very possible with my awesome companion and the help of the lord!
love ELder Anderson!
oh and the pic is from when we went to eat pizza after the training with president as like 60 missionarys. tonight i head for cusco for more training tomorow!!

July 25, 2011

Hey Everyone!
So this week was another good one! we are making alot of improvements here in our sector, and are really trying to help all the other missionarys in their areas at the same time. its alot of hard work, but in our training session today i really think that we were able to help them out a ton! i hope we see results from it this next week. i also completed my year this week which was kind of crazy. i dont really feel any different, but its just weird to think that i only have a year left. if i keep working as hard as i am now though, i think ill have alot more amazing experiences. oh and everytime a missionary completes a year they have to burn a shirt, so that was alot of fun. i actually did it the day after i completed my year though, just cuz we had too much to do the day before. anyways, it was a great week, and im looking forward to helping out the ward more this week. there are only 40 people coming to church here right now, so we have a ton of work to do...oh and the pic of the lake is titicaca! and that city is puno..the other pics are kinda obvious ha.

Hello!

July 18, 2011

Hey everyone!

So this week a bunch of stuff happend, and alot has changed. im
oficially in a place called Juliaca, which is like the coldest place
in the mission, but its been bearable..im a zone leader now too, which means that i am in charge of all 22  missionaries here in this area!its alot of responsibility, but i like it alot, and even though I oficially have zero time to sleep instead of a little its alot of fun. oh and something awesome is that i have a cell phone to use now too! thats a big bonus of being a leader..and something really crazy is that i have a white companion! his name is elder eggleston from california/utah. he is a really cool guy, and we get along really well. oh and he plays golf for byu hawaii, so we have a ton in common! lets just say that we never run out of conversations..i showed up here in juliaca, in a sector called rinconada, where before the missionarys hadnt done anything, so i have to start from scratch which is pretty rough, but also its a great privelage that i have because i can really turn things around with alot of hard work. there havent been baptisms here for a while either, but im hoping that i can turn that around as well with the help of the lord. we are working our butts off though, so i hope that well be able to see some results soon. so beinga zone leader now, we get to do some really cool stuff. this week another seventy of the church came to juliaca, elder uceda, and i got to pick him up from the airport here!!!! then we got to drive with him to puno which is an hour away for a conference that we had with him and about 100 missionarys, which was amazing! on the way to puno though, we got the chance to talk a ton, and we even stopped at ancient incan ruins to take pics with him! lets just say that that was one of my favorite experiences by far! after the meeting with all the missionarys. The like 10 of us zone leaders that were there got to go to a private meeting with elder uceda, and president calderon and his wife. There we got to talk more and share some ideas of how we can improve the mission, and it was really cool. all in all it was an amzing week. I have alot of work to do here, and have been given a huge resposibility, so now its just time to get to work..

July 4, 2011 (Happy Independence Day!)

Hey Everyone!

So today was an amazing week. the bad part was that it was raining and freeeeeeeezing cold alllllll weeek, but we still had some amazing experiences. first of all, elder nash came and talked to the whole mission. he is one of the seventies of the church which is like a big time leader to say the least. he shared alot of stuff with us, and when he talked about the atonement of christ i was wanting to cry the whole time. it was an amazing experience to be able to be with him and shake his hand and take pics with him and everything. we werent planning on having baptisms this week, bnut saturday the coolest thing ever happend. we were teaching gods plan for us here in the earth to a family, and the daugters said they wanted to be baptized. we were planning on having their baptisms at the end of the month or something, but they told us, ¨no, we want to get baptized tomorow.¨ we quickly got them ready and had an amazing baptismal for them and one other kid that just turned eight, and it was amazing. like 70 people were there which was really cool, and all in all yesterday was one of the most spiritual days of my life. the 2 girls that got baptized too are amazing and are really excited to be members of the church. anyways ya it was a really great week, and somehow were already in the last week of changes so i let you know next week if anythings changed.
